ABOUT VISUAL ART SOURCE

Visual Art Source (VAS) is a digital art platform located right here at visualartsource.org. Our website is your primary source for visual art of the Western and Midwestern United States. We are a non-profit publication. If you would like to make a text deductible donation to support our writers and discourse please click the Donate Now button.

VAS covers art venues and their exhibitions in the Western United States from the West Coast to Chicago. And a free subscription to our Email Announcement Service, including the VAS eNewsletter of exhibition reviews and commentaries; The Democracy Chain eJournal, columns and commentaries on today's social and political issues from an art critical perspective; and selected Gallery and Museum Announcements featuring information about the latest exhibition and events is free and simple to register for--just sign up using our simple Subscription Form.

VAS also brings you extensive listings (over 1,000 of them) of galleries and museums selected for the quality of their art and exhibition programs. VAS is all visual art, all the time, keeping you fully engaged and informed—wherever in the Western and Midwestern States you happen to reside or travel.

Publisher Bill Lasarow collaborates with an array of writers around the Western U.S. to bring you this content. He founded and published ArtScene, the print-only digest to visual art in Southern California, from 1982 until 2020. He co-founded the digital-only Visual Art Source in 2010 with the then publisher of the late and lamented art magazine, Art Ltd.

A Word to Visual Art Source Subscribers and the Coming of AI

If you are a subscriber (free of charge) you receive the VAS eNewsletter, The Democracy Chain (TDC) eJournal, and our Email Announcement Service featuring art gallery and museum exhibitions around the Western United States from the West Coast to Chicago.

Online you will also find our archive of published articles--reviews and columns by top art writers in the region--and a selective roster of over 1,000 Venue Pages. These are housed on our original website ending in .com. Updating ended in 2023. In the case of the articles, we welcome you to browse knowing that good art reviews and opinion never go out of date, and can serve as a valuable research tool. As for the Venue Pages, there are always new venues opening and, sadly, closing, so that roster will slower go more and more out of date. Better to rely on our Email Announcement Service for new information. There are websites such as Artsy that are well developed and deeply invested in a constantly updated guide to the thousands of venues world wide.

Moving forward you can count on VAS and TDC to be a highly specialized platform for discourse on art and public issues by select professional writers accompanied by our special brand of imagery specifically paired to complement their words. A bit old fashioned, but we think well worth your will. The advent of websites designed and built with rapidly developing AI program technology is now upon us. Soon enough all websites will be produced using AI. Therefore, rather than investing today in integrating the old .com website with our current .org website, expect significant changes in what we think will happen in just a year or two. Really. We think it's pretty crazy too!

VAS and TDC form a non-profit, 501c3 organization whose mission is to stimulate an open discourse about art, culture, politics and society from the perspective of professional art critics and artists. Please consider making a one-time or regular monthly donation. It's easy and it's tax deductible, just click the Donate button.
